How to dramatically improve DrY Sensitive Skin: causes and skincare routine

Dermatologists are claiming that in some countries the percentage of women having sensitive skin reached 91% even though only few years ago that percentage was 50%. So, what happened?


First, let’s clarify what are the symptoms of dry sensitive skin  and the causes that affect Dry sensitive skin:

  • Pollution it’s a trigger that we can’t hide for, is everywhere and in cases of hyper sensitive skin causes an even worse irritation. 
  • Sun exposure – in most of the cases sensitivity comes in combination with dryness and itchiness. Sun exposure will further dry the skin and when heat is already present in the tissue, you should avoid situations of further heat because this may cause blood capillaries to dilate and even to cease. This being the number one cause of broken capillaries.
  • Chemicals in skin care – lots of people can’t make the difference between sensitivity and sensitized skin. Sensitized skin is happening when the skin is exposed on a trigger over and over again. Skin care is so important being one factor that always has to be taken in consideration. Chemicals in skin care can seriously affect sensitive skin that’s why is hugely important a patch test to be done before starting to use any skin care. The patch test is best to be done in a tiny area with sensitive skin. You will know if that skin care is right for you if there’s no tingling sensation or itchiness. 
  • Food – Basically when there’s sensitivity in the skin there’s an inflammatory process going on in the area. Food is super linked with making it good or worse. Sugar, processed food and red meat are the main foods that create an inflammatory response in the body because blood becomes more acidic creating heat in the area.

Even though are more triggers out there, these are the main ones that I’m gone focus on because if you can deal with this triggers the result in your skin appearance will be fabulous. How do you do that?

Dry Sensitive Skin Treatment and Skin Care Routine for Dry sensitive skin

  1. When it comes to pollution and other environmental factors is really important to cleanse your skin. If you use a cleanser make sure is a very gentle one, non-foaming that has to be used especially in the night-time to remove all dirt and grit from the pores. Use circular movements and make sure to go under the fine facial hairs. You can use a facial cloth to remove the cleanser or just warm look water. In cases of hypersensitivity is better to use cold water.

      2. Another thing that’s very important is the fact that when it comes to sensitive skin, it no longer have that natural barrier to keep the skin protected at all times and it needs replenishment. A good  moisturizer is critical in this case, and should have calming and soothing properties.

      3. When exposed to the sun make sure to always wear SPF – 50 will be most recommended. Always use the SPF on top of moisturizer.

      4. Ingredients that you really want in your skin care regimen will be Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Calendula, Jojoba, Vitamin B3, Hyaluronic Acid, Geranium. These are ingredients that are really soothing for the skin creating the barrier that allows the skin to repair itself, some of them having healing properties on the skin like Chamomile and Aloe Vera. Chamomile is also a strong anti-inflammatory ingredient. Mallow, Ivy, Chamomile and Arnica are rich in flavonoids that have                    a huge beneficial impact on the way skin heals and hold water as well as Hyaluronic Acid.

      5. Foods that have anti-inflammatory effect are usually the ones that are alkaline like green leaves vegetables. Also berries in which category I have to mention  blueberries because are super rich in antioxidants as well that are very important when it comes to healthy skin. Nutritionists out there recommend when having a meal, to make sure you balance the alkaline foods with acidic foods in a proportion of 75 – 25.
